Compare / no code platforms
That AI Guy vs no code platforms
Honest comparison. No code wins on self serve setup and ongoing self management. We win on schema depth, answer engine surface, performance, and a system with no platform lock in.
Self managed versus engineer managed
No code platforms suit sites an operator wants to update without an engineer. A hand built system suits sites where technical search and answer engine depth, schema, and performance matter most.
The trade off is real and platforms have improved a great deal; Webflow in particular ships sites that look sharp. The remaining gap sits at the schema and answer engine layer, where platform constraints limit the granular control a production search and AI presence needs. For many small sites that gap costs traffic. For plenty of others it does not matter at all.
Side by side
The comparison
| Dimension | That AI Guy | No code platforms |
|---|---|---|
| Self serve content updates | Needs an engineer or an admin layer | Drag and drop, no engineer needed |
| Schema depth | Full schema graph on every page | Limited to what the platform exposes |
| Answer engine surface | Custom llms.txt, structured FAQ, speakable markup | Platform may not expose these controls |
| Performance | Hand tuned | Platform overhead makes tuning harder |
| Platform lock in | None, you hold the source and the domain | Proprietary platform, migration has a real cost |
| Time to first site | Slower, weeks not hours | Fast, hours are possible |
| Ongoing cost shape | One build you own | A subscription that runs for as long as the site does |
| Custom design | Unconstrained | Constrained by platform templates |
When a no code platform is the right call
Pick a no code platform when you want to manage content yourself, you do not need deep schema or answer engine control, the design fits inside a platform template, you want to launch in days rather than weeks, traffic is low enough that search is not a major channel, or full do it yourself ownership without engineer dependency matters more than anything else.
When That AI Guy is the right call
Pick us when answer engine visibility is a real channel for your organization, you want full schema control on every page, you have specialized content in a field like law, medicine, or finance where rich schema matters, you want out of platform lock in, you need AI features a platform cannot ship, or your design goes beyond what a template allows.
Where owning it mattered
A flooring contractor had a platform site that performed well as a brand presence. We left it alone. Instead we built a parallel, schema complete site on a separate address that exists purely to capture search. The original site stays the customer facing brand home; the new one carries the search weight. Both choices serve their purpose.
A tax firm had a platform site bleeding traffic because schema was incomplete and answer engine presence was not in place. We rebuilt it hand coded. Traffic recovered within a few months. For a content driven niche like tax preparation, the platform had become the wrong call.
Comparison FAQ
Can you make my Wix or Squarespace site rank?
Sometimes, through meta and content tuning. The structural ceiling is the platform itself. Where rankings really matter, we usually recommend a rebuild.
What about Webflow?
Webflow is the strongest no code platform for search. We have shipped Webflow projects for clients who wanted a self managed site. Its schema and answer engine ceiling is still lower than a hand coded system.
What about Framer?
A beautiful design surface with weaker search and schema support. Good for a marketing site, not where we recommend for content driven search work.
What if I already have a Squarespace or Wix site?
Keep it for the customer facing brand site. We can build a parallel search surface, on a subdomain or a partner address, that carries the search side without disturbing the brand site.
Can I edit the hand coded site myself?
Yes, for content updates, if you are comfortable with Markdown and version control, or through an optional admin layer built into the federation.
