Frequently asked questions

The most common question is "how do I evaluate fit?" The answer is: request the free written audit. It takes us 48 hours to deliver and tells you (and us) whether this is the right engagement before either side commits.

What does That AI Guy actually do for a small business?

We build four things: custom AI integrations (chatbots, retrieval-augmented generation, automation), custom software (internal tools, automations, APIs), SaaS products (MVP through production), and hand coded websites with full stack engine optimization across SEO, AEO, AIO, and GEO. Most clients start with one and add others over time.

How is this different from a development agency?

Traditional shops bundle account managers, project managers, designers, frontend developers, backend developers, an SEO consultant, and a markup on all of them. By the time the work reaches the engineer, half your budget is gone. That AI Guy is one engineer holding the project end to end. Same person on the discovery call, the build, and the post-launch support ticket.

What is MEGAMIND and how does it improve my project?

MEGAMIND is a federated neural network running on Apple Silicon Mac Studios across multiple physical sites, documented as Wikidata entity Q138610666. We use it for AEO measurement (which queries surface client sites in ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity), schema testing, and private model hosting for client work that cannot leave our hardware. Findings from MEGAMIND research go into every client build.

Will my site rank in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Google AI Overviews?

Yes when paired with the engine optimization stack. Every site ships with answer capsules, FAQPage and Speakable schema, llms.txt, entity triangulation through Wikidata, and a robots.txt that explicitly allows AI crawlers. The 14-tier optimization framework covers all four engine families.

How much does a custom AI build cost?

AI integrations start at $1,997 for an embedded chatbot trained on your content. RAG systems with private retrieval start at $4,997. Multi-modal builds with vision, voice, and fine-tuning start at $9,997 and scale with scope. Full pricing on the pricing page.

How long does an AI integration take to ship?

Custom chatbots ship in 2 to 3 weeks. RAG systems ship in 3 to 5 weeks. Multi-modal or fine-tuned builds ship in 6 to 12 weeks depending on data preparation. Hand coded websites ship in 1 to 6 weeks depending on tier. SaaS MVPs ship in 6 weeks; full production SaaS in 10-12.

Do I own the code, the model, and the data after launch?

Yes, fully. Code lives in a Git repository you own. Models you can pull and run. Vector databases run on infrastructure you control. Documentation in your wiki. There is no proprietary platform, no rented infrastructure you cannot replicate, and no agency lock-in. The studio leaves clean.

What is SDVOSB?

Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business is a federal small business designation enabling SDVOSB set-aside contracts through SAM.gov. Joseph W. Anady is a verified SDVOSB owner with active SAM.gov registration.

Do you take projects outside Missouri and Arkansas?

Yes. That AI Guy ships nationwide. Projects have shipped to clients in 18+ US states across all four time zones. We work asynchronously by default with weekly Loom updates and a fixed weekly review slot.

Can That AI Guy take over an abandoned project?

Yes. The first step is the free written audit covering current state, what was built, what works, and what is broken. The second step is a fixed-price quote to either complete the build, refactor it, or migrate to a maintainable foundation. Most takeover projects are cheaper than starting over but not always — the audit will tell you.

What stack do you build on?

Default stack: Node 22, Python 3.12, Next.js, FastAPI, Postgres 16 with pgvector, Redis, Claude or GPT or Llama for AI, Cloudflare for edge. We deviate when a different stack fits the project better. The stack is documented in every Statement of Work.

How do payments work?

Fixed-price quotes with milestone-based payment. Typical schedule is 50% on signing, 50% on production deploy. Larger builds use 33/33/33 across milestones. We accept Stripe (card or ACH), wire transfer, and check. SDVOSB set-aside federal contracts use SAM.gov-standard terms.

Do you sign NDAs?

Yes. Standard mutual NDA before any sensitive details are exchanged. Most clients use ours; we will sign a reasonable mutual on yours. We do not sign NDAs that prohibit us from disclosing the engagement existed (a portfolio reference) without compensation.

Do you offer ongoing support after launch?

Every build includes a support window (30-180 days depending on tier). Beyond that, the three monthly retainer tiers cover ongoing maintenance, AEO optimization, and active growth work.
